Dashain festival is the longest and the most auspicious festival in Nepal, celebrated by Hindus and Kirats. This year, the festival falls on October 26, starting from the Shukla paksha (bright lunar fortnight) of the month and ending on Purnima (full moon). Among the 15 days of celebrations, the first nine days are called Navaratri.<\/p>\n
During these days, devotees throng Durga temples to offer prayers to Goddess Durga. The festival marks the victory of the Goddess Durga over the Demon Mahisasur.<\/p>\n
