With the first case of local transmission of coronavirus infection in the country, the Nepali Government has extended the nationwide lockdown until April 15, 2020.<\/p>\n
Owing to the enforced lockdown, various local festivals and melas have been canceled across the country.<\/p>\n
According to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6 Ward Chairman, Dipendra Kumar Lama, the ‘Temal Jatra of Boudha’<\/strong> has been postponed citing the stringent lockdown.<\/p>\n Every year, thousands of devotees visit the Boudha Stupa to participate in the candle lightening ceremony to honor their beloved ancestors.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Likewise, Balaju 22 Dhara Mela<\/strong>, a bathing fair to eradicate all evils, has also been postponed in view of indefinite lockdown.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Similarly, Jamacho Jatra<\/strong> has also been postponed. On this festival, people reach Jamacho Gumba, the place where Boudha meditated.<\/p>\n According to the organizing Committee Chairman Chandraman Lama, the devotees go in groups to reach the place as they have to cross a forest.<\/p>\n So far, Nepal has reported 9 coronavirus positive cases.
