Nepal is ranked 73 out of the 117 on the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2019 report, prepared by the Irish aid agency Concern Worldwide <\/em>and the German organization Welt Hunger Hilife<\/em>.<\/p>\n It received a GHI score of 20.8, which puts it under the serious<\/strong> level of hunger.<\/p>\n Countries having a GHI score between 20.0 \u2013 34.9 fall under \u2018serious hunger levels\u2018.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n However, a review of the last nine years shows that Nepal has greatly improved its ability of providing food to its people.<\/p>\n In 2000, it projected a score of 36.8 percent, in 2005 its decelerated to 31.3 percent and in 2010 it dropped further to 24.5 percent.<\/p>\n The GHI 2019 report calculated the score based on factors such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n In terms of proportion of undernourished in the population<\/em>, Nepal showed a decline from 22.0 percent in 2000 to 8.7 percent in 2019.<\/p>\n For Prevalence of wasting children under five years<\/em>, Nepal decelerated from 11.3 percent in 2000 to 9.6 percent in 2019.<\/p>\n However, the prevalence of stunting in children under five years remains a serious concern for Nepal. While there is a steady decline since 2000 (57.1 percent), the percentage of stunting in children below five continues to remain as high as 36.0 percent in 2019.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lastly, the Under-five mortality rate which was 8.2 percent in 2000 has reduced to 3.4 percent.<\/p>\n With the above statistics, it is evident that the Nepal Government\u2019s efforts of reducing hunger in the country is bearing fruit.<\/p>\n Nepal\u2019s rank is relatively better than neighboring countries India (102), Pakistan (94) and Bangladesh (88).
