Nepal\u2019s streets are filled with women and young girls shopping for green accessories, green clothing and getting mehendi (henna) on their hands.<\/p>\n
During the whole month, Nepali fashion will be influenced by the color green.<\/p>\n

Women thronged street pavements blocking regular movement, making it difficult for pedestrians to make their way out on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Henna artists made good earnings on the very first day of Shrawan as women in Nepal came with great enthusiasm to get their hands designed with henna.<\/p>\n
While many women are aware of the significance of Shrawan month, some girls are concerned with the aesthetic aspect of the auspicious month associated with well-being of all married women husband.<\/p>\n
Women fast and offer prayers on every Monday in Shrawan while wearing green accessories to show their devotion to Lord Shiva. They also pray to the deity for their husband\u2019s long life. They also offer water to Lord Shiva.<\/p>\n

As per the legend, Shrawan celebrations date back to the episode of the Samudra Manthan when the gods and demons churned the milky ocean to find the amrit. <\/em>During the process, 13 different rubies emerged from the ocean and was divided between the gods and demons. However, the 14th<\/sup> one \u2013 the Halahal contained the most deadliest poison, which was powerful to destroy the whole universe.<\/p>\n Lord Shiva drank the Halahal and stored it in his throat, which turned blue due to the poison\u2019s impact. This is where he received the name Neelkantha. <\/em>The devas took the water of the sacred Ganga and poured it on him to reduce the effects of the poison.
