June 29, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n The counting of the votes has commenced for the second phase of the Nepal local election 2017. The voting, which ended on Wednesday, recorded a voter attendance of 70.5 per cent. The voting was conducted in three provinces \u2013 1, 2, 5, and 7 of Nepal. More than 62,000 candidates are competing for 15,038 positions across 334 local units in 35 districts of Nepal.<\/p>\n There were 6,432,765 eligible voters in three provinces. Bajura district recorded the highest 80 percent voter attendance while Bhojpur saw the lowest 61 per cent voter attendance.<\/p>\n The local elections are the first in Nepal since 1997 and are being seen as an attempt by the government to bring back democracy to the country hit by a decade-long civil war that ended in 2006.<\/p>\n The parties competing in the election are Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML, the Maoist Kendra, the Rashtriya Prajatantra Party and others.<\/p>\n Results will be declared soon.
