    In a surprising turnout, as many as 96 Nepali political parties have not yet submitted property details to the Election Commission EC!<\/p>\n

    On September 26, 2018, EC decided to collect information from political parties that failed to update the regulatory with their property details.<\/p>\n

    However, only 31 out of the 127 parties registered with EC have reported the status of their property detail submission, so far.<\/p>\n

    Background<\/h4>\n

    According to the Nepal Act on Amendment & Integration of Political Parties 2017, central officials and members are required to submit property details to the party office within 60 days of being elected to the post.<\/p>\n

    The respective party\u2019s central office has to publish names of members who submitted property details and those who failed to do so even one month after deadline.<\/p>\n

    In the event of failure to comply with the regulation, EC has the authority to fine the party member or official with NPR 10,000 fine. Additionally, the concerned party is fined with NPR 5000 if the details are not published in time.<\/p>\n

    Progress So Far<\/h4>\n

    EC Deputy Attorney General Ghanashyam Ojha said that most parties informed the election authority that they started collecting details from their central committee member while some others already collected them.<\/p>\n

    \u201cHowever, all four \u2018national\u2019 parties\u2019 represented in the House of Representatives\u2014Nepal Communist Party, Nepali Congress, Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal and Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum-Nepal\u2014informed us that their central committee members had submitted property details and that they had put up a notice on their notice board,\u201d Ojha<\/span> added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Interestingly, all four national parties submitted details after the deadline.<\/p>\n

    EC\u2019s Decision<\/h4>\n

    The election authority will crosscheck authenticity of all the provided information after Tihar festival, Ojha said.<\/p>\n

    A report will be compiled, based on the information provided. \u201cThe meeting of commissioners will decide on what to do regarding the parties who failed to notify the EC within the deadline,\u201d Ojha added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
