According to the unemployment report released on April 23, 2020, 1 in 6 American employees has lost job due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Over 26 million Americans, the combined population of 10 biggest US cities, have lost employment in the last five weeks with 4.4 million in last week alone.
In response to the worsening economic crisis, the US Congress has passed USD 484 billion relief package to support collapsed businesses and overwhelmed hospitals.
The US is the worst-hit country in the world by the coronavirus pandemic with the highest number of infections and deaths.
So far, the US has reported 886,709 coronavirus positive cases and 50,243 death cases.
