COVID-19 Threat: Nepali Prez Expresses Concern About Nepalis in US

As the USA is reeling under the colossal impact of COVID-19, the Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed concern over the condition of Nepalis living in the new epicentre for coronavirus.

The President called the Nepali Embassy in the USA to enquire about the situation of Nepalis in the USA.

She also requested the American Government to provide necessary assistance to the Nepali citizens and students in their country whose visa term has expired due to the travel restrictions over COVID-19 threat.

President Bhandari urged the Nepalis in the USA to be aware of the current situation and be safe.

According to the Nepali Embassy in the USA, around 500,000 Nepalis are living in the USA.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Embassy in the USA has organized a video conference with the representatives of Non-resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) America and other 126 Nepali Associations to discuss the issues faced by their citizens in the USA.

They decided to regularly monitor the situation of Nepalis and give the necessary support.

The Embassy urged the Nepalis to contact them or the Consulate General in New York in case of any emergency.

In the same line, the Embassy has initiated 24/7 services with four telephone lines and a separate email for concerns related to COVID-19.

The Embassy reported that a Nepali has died of COVID-19 infection while some are under treatment.

As of today, the USA reported 188,639 coronavirus infection case and 4,059 death cases.
