In a new initiative, the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) launched the photonepal.travel online portal targeting Visit Nepal 2020 on September 10, 2019.
The launch of the portal is an attempt to effectively promote tourism destinations throughout Nepal.
Speaking at the portal launching ceremony, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai confidently said that the new portal will be instrumental in promoting Nepal tourism destinations.
He also laid emphasis on the need for drawing domestic and foreign tourists by disseminating photos of Nepal tourist places which are hidden despite having immense tourism potential.
Also present at the occasion, the NTB Chief Executive Deepak Raj Joshi said a new concept has started considering that photo is an important element in promoting tourism destinations.
He also said that the photo portal will also provide an opportunity for photographers to share their photos. However, the photos will be uploaded to the portal based on quality and appropriateness.
“On the one hand, it will strengthen digital network, and on the other, it will provide a platform for individual to showcase their pictures,” said Nepal Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Minister Yogesh Bhattarai.
The NTB has assured that the copyright of the user has been protected.
According to the NTB, the portal is not for publishing photographs internationally but will also be used to run related contests from time to time.
Currently, the daily site visit of photonepal portal is 5,000, the sign-up capacity is over 50 and the total photo upload capacity is more than 1,000.
The NTB is organizing #photoNepal campaigns regularly since the last four years. Photos from the campaigns are also being featured on the website.
