Earlier in June, the Nepali Government has decided to impose extension and overstay fees as well as fines only after 15 days from the resumption of international flights.
The decision was taken after the foreign embassies in Nepal and the Nepal Tourism Board urged the Nepali Government to alleviate foreign tourists from economic burdens amid the pandemic.
Even though most tourists have left on repatriation flights organized by their embassies, there are still about 2,000 foreign passport holders on tourist visas stuck in Nepal.
As the government has decided to resume international flights from August 17, the foreigners in Nepal have started appealing for extension of their visa terms.
They claimed that they failed to complete their visits and tours due to the nationwide lockdown for the last four months. Moreover, they stated that they could not return to their countries as there is a high risk of coronavirus contraction during the journey.
Most of the foreign tourists recently started visiting Pokhara sites as the Nepali Government has lifted lockdown in the country.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) had completed all preparations to resume commercial aviation service from August 17.
However, the CAAN has decided to operate only limited flights in both domestic and international sectors.
It is set to operate only 15 to 30 domestic flights from 6 AM to 6 PM and handle a maximum of 300 passengers per hour in the first week. And only 10 to 15 international flights will be operated per day.
All airline operators in Nepal have received approval for their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) from the CAAN to resume services from August 17.
