The post Internet Connectivity Set to Become Costly in Nepal appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>This development is likely to become a reality as the country’s most significant internet service providers reach a consensus.
The Internet Service Providers’ Association of Nepal (ISPAN) stated that the fellow companies would hike the monthly subscription prices by NPR 150 in rural areas while urban areas will be subjected to a hike of NPR 300.
However, the prices will be implemented only if the government approves the hike.
Nepal Telecommunication Authority, the country’s telecom regulator, will play a crucial role as it is ratification is required for the implementation of the hike. The national authority is expected to take a call on this.
ISPAN stated that it was compelled to jack up the prices as Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Telecom increased their overheads from internet companies.
Sudhir Parajuli, ISPAN President, stated that their decision to hike prices would affect 90 percent of the internet users in Nepal.
The internet service providers are already on the receiving end as most feel the prices they pay for the tendered substandard services is unjustified.

This contract was awarded to SJVN Limited under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) initiative at the 46th meeting of IBN. The model is a public-private partnership.

]]>The post Illegally Imported Phones Will Be Non-functional from Next Week! appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>Once the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) comes into operation, all mobile sets brought without a bill and imported without paying customs duty will become unserviceable.
The MDS will secure and track all the cell phones in the country to ward off misuse and grey market imports.
“As we have observed that the Integrated Data Centre of the government can make the real-time observation of mobile devices’ genuineness, we decided to make a soft launch,” said Purushottam Khanal, NTA Chairman.
Once the system is enforced, people entering Nepal will be allowed to bring only one mobile set along with the purchase bill.
“If they bring more than one set, a customs duty will be charged on the extra sets,” said Khanal.
“The phones will need to be registered too. Illegal mobile devices will be blocked from use in Nepal.”
Currently, travelers entering Nepal are allowed to bring more than one mobile set.
From July 16, travelers bringing more than one mobile set will have to register them with the NTA to make them operational.
However, the mobile users will be notified to register with notification of denial of service after 15 days from the first detection of the unregistered set.

]]>Now, any Nepali can receive the prescribed government services by submitting an application through the Nagarik App.
After registering in the application, the applicant will receive an OTP. So, to avail any government service, the user must enter the password along with the name, address, and date of birth. “If a service-seeker is a registered user of the app, they can submit an application to receive online services. In case any fee is chargeable for the service, the amount shall be paid to the concerned government service provider agency as instructed by the app,” reads Citizen App (Operation and Management) Directive, 2021.

The Nepali Government ought to seek support from the Nepal Telecommunications Authority and National Information Technology Centre, among others, for operation, management, and maintenance of the app.
The Directive demands an eight-member coordination committee under the IT Ministry to maintain coordination among service providers.
Similarly, a seven-member technical committee led by a joint secretary of the IT Ministry has been formed to address the technical issues of the app.

]]>The post Nepal Introduces Digital Visa System, Replacing 45Y Old Manual Visa Regime! appeared first on Nepali Sansar.
]]>Deputy PM Bishnu Prasad Paudel launched the new visa system under which visas are generated digitally leveraging data from the integrated information system of the Department of Immigration (DoI).
Moreover, the system itself produces visa numbers, and three visas can be accommodated on a single page of a passport.
“The digital visa system would make Nepali visas more credible and help ensure national security,” said Puadel.
According to DoI, the digital visa comes with state-of-art features, including hologram, watermarks and QR code. Scanning of QR code reveals the details of the visa enabling authorities which helps in determining the authenticity of the visa. As the digital systems generate visas, any scope for tempering is ciphered.
“With the new system, the security and management of visas are expected to be strengthened,” said DoI Information Officer Jhanka Nath Dhakal.
“Currently, we issue visas by writing manually on a printed copy of visa sticker, and such visa is pasted on the passport of foreigners. Under the new system, nothing should be done manually to issue the visa,” he added.
Dhakal also anticipated that the new system would pave the way for e-visas in the future.
On the same day, the Immigration Department issued over 150 digital visas to foreigners. Tenzing Norbu Lama of Portugal is the first to receive such a visa.
However, the Department started the digital system only at its headquarters in Kalikasthan. It aims to expand the service to Tribhuvan International Airport and all other offices within the first four months of the upcoming FY 2021-22.
