As part of its future development strategy, the Government of Nepal has recently signed the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2018-2022.

An official agreement in this regard was signed between Nepal’s National Planning Commission (NPC) and the UN team in Nepal on September 02, 2017.

At the signing ceremony, the UN Resident Coordinator Valerie Julliand said, “The strong alignment of UNDAF with the national plans, international conventions and the Constitution of Nepal provide the foundation to support the Government of Nepal’s efforts in ensuring that ‘no one is left behind’ as laid out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Nepal officials also expressed hope that the framework would help the country in achieving its Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.

“We are pleased to be signing this framework with the United Nations in Nepal. It is broadly aligned with our national priorities as envisioned by the government of Nepal,” said Chairman of NPC Nepal Swarnim Wagle.

On the occasion, the UN team informed that a USD 635 million package, involving 26 individual UN agencies, would assist Nepal in four key areas including social development, inclusive economic growth, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
