In support of needy students from disadvantaged communities, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Thailand and Civil Initiative entered into an agreement to set up a Civil Scholarship Fund to promote school enrolment, among other activities.

Adding to the scholarship fund, Mega Bank Nepal Ltd, in an MoU with Civil Initiative, agreed to donate a total of Rs 300,000 per year initially for five years, informed Khagendra Prasad Dhakal, President, NRNA Thailand. Whereas, NRNA Thailand contributed Rs 3.6 million to the fund.

According to Dhakal, students between Grades VIII and XII are eligible for the scholarship. There is also a ‘Civil Scholarship Fund Guidelines, 2017’ document in place to give information about the scholarship eligibility.

In the first five years of implementation, the scholarship will be allocated to earthquake-hit districts of Nepal.

“For the first year the project will be implemented in Dolkha and Gorkha districts, for 40 students, with 20 students in each district as pilot project and the following years minimum 100 students will be awarded the scholarship each year. The scholarships for the first batch will be granted by the first week of October,” says Dhakal.

Motikala Subba Dewan (Advocate and Educationist), Ramesh Khadka (Media Representative) and Pralhad Karki (Educationist) are among the members of the Scholarship Determination and Implementation Committee.
