A recent study conducted by the District Health Office (DHO), Tanahun revealed an alarming fact that is concerning the district’s populace.

In a study, it conducted over the first six months of the current fiscal, the Tanahun DHO confirmed that ‘over 25% of the girls in the district are becoming mothers before their child-bearing age’. Speaking on this, the DHO chief, D Pawanjung Rayamajhi, noted that the study concluded those girls to be below the age of 14 years, which is raising a concern over the growing number of young mothers in the district.

“As there is an increasing number of girls becoming pregnant before the right age, it is going to be a public health issue, as young mothers are too shy to come for pregnancy tests and lack proper nutrition. This is going to have adverse health consequences for both mother and baby,” the doctor reportedly said.

According to reports, around 9,734 women visited the healthcare facility for their pregnancy tests.
