India is assisting Nepal in setting up the national police academy near Kathmandu at a cost of Rs 550 crores that will provide training to 410 Nepalese police officers every year. Located at Panauti, the academy will be on the lines of Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). The SVPNPA is doing the feasibility study for the national police academy, while India’s Ministry of Home Affairs is providing consultancy service for the project monitoring and quality assurance services.

The executing agency, Ministry of Home Affairs of Nepal, is working with the government of India-nominated officials in a joint project monitoring committee. According to an official, 350 police officers from Nepal are trained in India every year. The new academy in Nepal will provide training to 410 Nepalese police officers annually.
