]]> 19 % of Nepal’s landmass is covered by National Park and Protected Zone. The country’s largest protected area Annapurna Conservation Area, spread across 7,629 sq.km, stands as the global model for conservation and sustainable development and is the first place to have a multi-conceptual park management system.

Over the years, Nepal has managed to protect (from extinction) and boost the population of various endangered species such as blackbucks, tigers, Indian bison, Gharial and wild buffalo, among many others.

Nepal’s Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the world’s only national park in the vicinity of the international airport and capital city. Nepal has made a notable achievement in boosting the population of rhinos from around 80 during the 1970s to 645 (as of 2015).
