The Knowledge-based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition (KISAN) project, which was launched by the Ministry of Agricultural Development with the support of the United States government, has helped to double the food production on over 87,000 hectares of land and enabled farmers and businessmen in Western Nepal to earn around Rs 17.4 billion.

The KISAN project trained over 118,000 households across 20 districts in using modern farming technologies and nurtured partnerships between the farmers and over 700 private sector enterprises during a five year period.

According to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu, the Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires Michael Gonzales said that improvements in the agriculture sector are a result of the joint collaboration in promoting the use of modern farming technologies and practices. He added that the focus would now be on building a strong foundation for enhancing private sector trade and investments.
