The two countries can become members of the governing body for a 3-year term, according to the ILO rule.

The Asia Pacific region’s group also includes countries like Pakistan, India, Iran, Afghanistan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

A total of 66 member countries will be elected as the deputy member of the organization. Out of the 66 countries, 28 will be elected from the government group, 19 from the private sector and 19 from the representative of labor unions.

Nepal decided to participate in the election process to become a member of the ILO’s governing body as it has been sending thousands of youths to abroad for jobs every year. As per the Department of Foreign Employment, 4.4 million youths have gone abroad to find jobs last year.

Though ILO has already said that laborers need not pay any charge while going for overseas employment, Nepal youths have been demanded to pay certain fees before landing into the foreign job destinations.

However, the government officials say that now Nepal, which became the governing body of the ILO, can make a needful plan to ensure safety of Nepali workers in abroad.
