In a move protecting its wild life base, Nepal is all set to raise its concerns at the International Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Forum to be held at Bishkek of Kyrgyz Republic from August 23-26, 2017.

At the forum, Nepali officials will be presenting a snow leopard protection plan and discuss status & population of snow leopards in the country.

Issues related to illegal trapping, snaring and trade of body parts of snow leopards will also be discussed at the event. In this regard, the country plans to pitch for the enforcement of guidelines and regulations to fight against such issues.

As part of conservation efforts, Nepal plans to bring in community-based approach and local institutions within and around snow leopard habitats to implement conservation.

According to WWF Nepal, one of the conservation partners of Nepal Government, Nepal’s presentation will majorly focus on infrastructure development, climate change, research, landscape planning, wildlife legislation and community-based conservation for the protection of snow leopards.

With the inclusion of such recommendations, Nepal will be presenting a protected area declaration concept, informed Ghanshyam Gurung, Senior Conservation Programme Director at WWF informed.

The International Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Forum is going to see the participation of representatives of various governments of 12 snow leopard range countries, other interested nations, international institutions, donor agencies, conservation organizations and scientific institutions.
