Nepal Makes a Mark at World Powerlifting Championship

The father-son duo of Gyanendra Nakarmi and Rojin Nakarmi have done Nepal proud yet again.

At the ongoing World Powerlifting Championship, being held in India’s capital New Delhi under the supervision of Dronacharya award winner Bhupender Dhawan, the Nakarmis won medals in their respective events prevailing over stiff opposition from competitors of different countries including USA, England, France, Germany, Holland, Iran, Bhutan and hosts India.

 

Gyanendra, the gold medal winner at the championship in 2014, bagged the silver medal in the Masters category. Rojin claimed the bronze medal in the sub-junior (Under 19) category.

Nepal has enjoyed success in the earlier editions of the championship as well. While Buddhi Jung Karki won the silver in 2014, Gyan Naraan Maharjan and Dinesh Shrestha won the bronze medals in 2015 and 2005 respectively.
