Five Nepali Athletes to Participate in 2020 World Powerlifting Championship!

Nepal is all set to participate in the upcoming 25th edition of the World Powerlifting Championship scheduled to be held from December 4 – 7, 2020, in Maharashtra, India.

“The 2020 Powerlifting Championship will see athletes from 25 countries, including Nepal,” said Jiban Giri, Vice-President of the Asian Powerlifting Federation.

According to the Nepal Powerlifting Association (NPA), five Nepali athletes, four men, and a woman will compete with the international players in the 2020 World Powerlifting Championship.

 

25th edition of the World Powerlifting Championship

The athletes are as follows:

  • Aashish Ale (under 100 kg category)
  • Rajesh Suwal (under 90 kg category)
  • Hasan Gurung (under 80 kg category)
  • Sujan Ale (under 75 kg category)
  • Shruti Karki (under 55 kg category)

As per NPA President Sundar Bhusal, an eight-member team, including five athletes, two coaches, and a manager, will leave for India on December 3.

Bhusal expressed his belief that the Championship will be an important step for Nepal to revive sports activities that have come to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the NPA is preparing to organize a national powerlifting competition after selecting athletes from all seven provinces.
