According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Nepal has secured direct entry into the Global Qualifiers for the T20 International Cricket World Cup 2021.
Along with Nepal, Zimbabwe, UAE and Hong Kong were also qualified for the Global Qualifiers.
The ICC has confirmed the qualification process for the T20I World Cup 2021 to be hosted by India on January 23, 2020.
There will be two Global Qualifier matches with a total of 16 teams, scheduled between March and July 2021.
The 16 teams include:
The top 2 teams from each Global Qualifier, a total of 4, will progress to the 16-team T20 World Cup 2021. The remaining 12 spots will be filled by the top 12 teams from the 2020 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The 11 regional qualification events will take place between March and September 2020 across the 5 ICC regions including Africa, America, Asia, East-Asia Pacific and Europe.
As Nepal is in the “Next 4 highest ranked T20I teams as of 1 January 2020”, it won’t have to play Asian Qualifier for the World Cup Qualifiers.
The 2021 Men’s ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in October 2021.
