13th SAG 2019: Nepal Secures ‘Bronze’ in Men’s Cricket

Nepal has defeated the Maldives by 5 wickets in the 3rd place play-off men’s cricket match of the 13th South Asian Games held at Kirtipur on December 9, 2019.

Chasing the meagre 95-run target set by Maldives, Nepali batsmen knocked the target in 16.1 overs.

Nepali batsmen took their turn to contribute their part for the win. Aarif Sheikh top-scored 33 runs, while Gyanendra Malla and Rohit Poudel notched 22 and 15 runs, respectively.

 

Maldivian, Umar Adam bowled 4 overs and got 3 Nepali batsmen out, giving away 20 runs.

Earlier, after gaining the toss, the host team invited the visiting team to bat first.

Maldives could score only 94 runs in the stipulated 20 over for the loss of 9 wickets.

Top scorer, L Shafeeg garnered 19 runs, Mohamed Rishwan notched 17 runs, while captain Mohamed Mahfooz scored 16 runs.

Nepali bowlers, LN Rajbanshi and S Bhari picked 3 and 2 wickets each and restricted the run rate of Maldivians.

13th South Asian Games 2019 Men’s Cricket Competition

With this win, Nepal has garnered a total of 4 points in the tournament. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka U-23 team bagged gold medal with 8 points and Bangladesh U-23 won silver medal with 6 points.
