Nepal Education experts have expressed dissatisfaction over Grade 12 students performance in their examination.
They have called for a revision in Nepal’s education policy after the results were announced on Monday.
Experts account the government policy for a poor performance from majority of the students stating that the policy doesn’t include provision to provide government teachers for Nepal’s higher secondary education level.
Lack of reading culture among students and teachers was also cited as one of the reasons for the dismal performance in the Nepal Grade 12 exams for 2019.
According to Educationist Mana Prasad Wagle, the dissatisfying performance of students only shows that teaching and learning activities in Grade 12 are dissatisfactory.
“The percentage of students getting the highest grade is less than 0.01 percent. This clearly shows that the teaching and learning activities in Grade XII is disappointing. This should be changed,” he said.
Wagle has identified two reasons for the performance of students.
“The first reason is that the government has not provided any teachers to grade XI and XII. And, the second reason is that most of the teachers are not much accountable to their students,” Wagle said.
A number of education experts have also said that the poor grading system in Secondary Education Examination (SEE) 2019, allowing everyone in the Grade X exams to pursue higher studies is also responsible for this situation.
“I think the reason behind this dismal result is lack of reading culture both among teachers and students. Students are not serious in their studies these days as they tend to take reading not very seriously,” said Educationist Bidhya Nath Koirala.
This is the first Nepal batch who wrote Grade XII exams after the government introduced a new grading system in Grade X two years back.
