Women Weightlifters set National Records in Asian Junior Championships

Kamala Shrestha and Sanju Chaudhary, who are representing host Nepal in the 24th Asian Junior Women’s Weightlifting Championships, set new national records on Tuesday in the 53 kg and 58 kg categories respectively.

Kamala lifted weights of 67 kg in snatch and 85 kg in clean and jerk events for a combined total of 152 kg and surpassed her own previous national record of 145 kg which was set in the Seventh National Games in 2016.

 

Sanju, a 17-year-old weightlifter in her first international participation, totaled 140 kg and beat Devi Chaudhary’s record of 137 kg set last year.

Both Kamala and Sanju expressed happiness on their achievements.
