Many people were injured and several cows were burnt to death when a cattle farm caught fire in Gokarneshwar Municipality-1, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, on Saturday. Baburam Karki, who owns the Om Kirshi Farm, had a total of 122 cows and 42 of them died in the fire accident. Other 53 cows have survived with minor injuries.
The fire enveloped the farm at around 11 am because of electric short circuit. Personnel from Nepal Police and the Nepal Army, supported by locals, had to spend around two hours to douse the fire, according to police. The total damage was yet to be estimated.
However, Karki said that property worth around Rs 70 million was destroyed by fire. The farm was shifted from Bhaktapur to Gokarneshwar five months ago and it used to sell around 1,000 litres of milk daily.
