The Information Technology park in Banepa is witnessing an increased activity with the infrastructure being set up by Kathmandu University (KU) and two private companies, Cloud Himalaya and Soft Tech foundation. The park, which is the only IT hub in Nepal, had remained unoccupied until recently though it was established by the government way back in 2013.
With the government giving a go-ahead to the Memoranda of Understanding signed by the three parties separately with the Department of Information Technology, the stakeholders are moving ahead with their plans.
Dr. Manish Pokharel, chief of KU’s computer department, said that their three priorities would be latest research, business incubation and setting up of a finishing school. He added that a Smart City Research Center would soon be established at the park.
Soft Tech, which focuses on software development and exports, will employ 20 IT professionals in the first phase. On similar lines, Cloud Himalaya, which would establish and operate a data center at the park, will initially provide jobs to 60 IT professionals.
Representatives from local bodies and various other organizations were invited to a public program organized at the park to familiarize them with the working of the facility and its positive impact towards the development of Banepa.
