The Indian metropolis Kolkata in the state of West Bengal will soon be home to Nepal Bhawan, that will cater to facilitating relief and rescue operations for the Nepalis in the region during times of crisis, disaster or ill-fated accidents. The building will be constructed at the initiative of the Nepali Welfare Trust set up by the India-Nepal People’s Friendly Cultural Forum of Kolkata.
Raju Pathak, the General-Secretary of the Forum’s Kolkata branch, stated that Kolkata lacks a suitable space where the Nepalis in the city could take refuge at the time of difficulties. He also mentioned that the Nepali community of Kolkata had purchased the land earmarked for the construction of the building and had organized the fundraising Deusi Bhailo program during the recent Tihar festival.
Khimraj Baral, the Coordinator of the Welfare Trust, said that they would solicit the support of the governments of Nepal and India for the project, while Yek Narayan Aryal, the Nepali Consul General in Kolkata offered to take up the issue of support with the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, India’s capital city.
