Nepali Students to Compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad

For the first time in 59 years, six students from Nepal will participate in the prestigious International Mathematical Olympiad. This year’s competition is being held in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro from July 13 to 23 and features undergrad students from over 100 countries.

The delegation would be headed by Professor Bhadraman Tuladhar of Kathmandu University. Dr. Tuladhar, who had prepared the questionnaire for the national-level selections, will be an observer at the event.

 

Bibek Panthi from Arghakhanchi, Bibek Panthi from Gulmi, Prabin Mahato from Siraha, and Prashanna Shrestha, Ajaya Pokharel and Abanish Khanal, all from Kathmandu are the six students who will be representing Nepal in the event. They were selected on the basis of their excellent performance in a rigorous national level competition.
