Lawyers Pitch for New Act to Operate Local Governance

July 5, 2017

In the special hour of the Legislature Parliament session, a section of lawyers voiced their opinions on the government functioning.

Pointing at the government’s functioning in the recently-held elections in six provinces, lawyers pitched on the need for having a new act focused on operating local governance. Stressing on the need for the new act, Rajan Bhattarai said the government was not serious in taking initiatives to conduct elections in a better way.

Rajaram Syangtan attributed to the lack of human resources as the reason behind improper organising of local elections.

Speaking on other contemporary issues, lawmaker Dilli Prasad Kalfey suggested the government to make the Kalikot hydroelectricity construction project self-dependent.

PPA signed with the Indian Government on the project, under the provision of purchasing power in dollar terms, would cause loss to Nepal, he added.
