An incessant rainfall caused the landslide at Charkilo stretch of the Narayangadh-Muglin road section and blocked transportation since the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Chitwan, the landslide happened at night and the route remained partially open. People used a single lane until 3 am, but the route got shut down completely at 4 am. The local authorities have sent dozers to remove the landslide debris.
The blockage has created a massive traffic jam in route to Kathmandu and Pokhara from Chitwan and vice versa.
Two days back, a landslide in Kalikhola had blocked vehicular movement for eight hours in Ratnanagar, Chitwan.
The mudslides on this route have become common as the road is currently under expansion. A few months back, two persons were killed when a dry landslide struck the under-construction road section.
