Nepal is known for its rich culture and heritage with the birthplace of Lord Buddha (in Kapilvastu, Lumbini) and the densest concentration of World Heritage Sites (Kathmandu alone has 7 sites in around 15 km radius), among others.
It is the country with the highest proportion of Hindu population in the world. In total, Nepal has over 80 ethnic groups and 123 languages. Cow is the national animal.
The country is home to the famous Elephant polo game. Nepalese celebrate their new year on the day of the first New Moon after mid-April (as per Vikram Samvat calendar).
Surprisingly, Nepali calendar is around 56 years and 8 months ahead of English calendar and has 32 days in a month.
