Province-1 Government Announces ‘NPR 5 Mn Insurance’ for Medics

While the healthcare workers are serving selflessly in the fight against coronavirus, the Province-1 Government has come forward to encourage the medics in the state.

The Province-1 Government has decided to provide NPR 5 million insurance to the doctors, medical staff, security personnel, ambulance drivers and other related staff involved in control, prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

With this decision, the next to kin of the deceased frontline workers will receive an insurance amount of NPR 5 million.

It is also applicable to any staff mobilized by the Provincial Government in any hospital fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to this effect was taken during the meeting of the Province-1 Council of Ministers on April 8, 2020.

Moreover, the health workers in the Province-1 will receive incentive allowance in addition to the provisions provided by the Central Government.

Earlier, PM Oli announced that the volunteers deployed in the COVID-19 treatment will receive NPR 1,500 allowance and the health workers will be insured for NPR 2.5 million.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Government is taking stringent actions against healthcare workers failing to provide services during the crucial time of coronavirus outbreak.

The Province-5 Government has suspended five doctors of the Lumbini Provincial Hospital on the charge of failing to attend duties without any concrete reasons.

The doctors include-

  • Prakash Neupane, ENT Department
  • Tara Prasad Sharma, Radiology Department
  • Bardan Wali, Radiology Department
  • Subas Chaudhary, Urosurgery Department
  • Prakriti Karki, Emergency Department

Likewise, Kaski District Police Office has arrested two ambulance drivers and confiscated their vehicles for their reluctance to provide services.

So far, Nepal has reported only nine coronavirus cases. However, the government is implementing stringent regulations and policies as the country is on high risk of coronavirus outbreak.

As of today, the coronavirus has infected 1,524,473 people and claimed 88,859 lives.
