Nepali bowler Sandeep Lamichhane has set a new record in the match played against the USA under the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 on February 12, 2020.
Lamichhane has registered the best figures by a Nepali bowler in a One Day International (ODI) match.
He grabbed 6 wickets of the USA giving away only 16 runs in 6 overs.
With his best spell of 6-1-16-6, Lamichhane surpassed Sompal Kami’s record of 5-wicket haul against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year.
Lamichhane’s bowling figures are seventh-best overall performance by a spinner and fifth-best by a leg-spinner in ODIs.
Invited to bat first after losing the toss, the USA was restricted to 35 runs in 12 overs, the lowest ODI score. Now, the USA and Zimbabwe jointly hold the record of lowest ODI score in cricket history.
Earlier, Zimbabwe scored 35 runs against Sri Lanka in 2004. Lamichhane and his bowling partner Sushan Bhari collectively choked the opponent batsmen with their splendid spell. Lamichhane took the highest 6 wickets, while Bhari claimed 4 wickets.
Later, Nepal chased down the target in 5.2 overs to win the match by 8 wickets.
