Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called for a meeting of the Council of Minister today at 5 PM at his official residence at Baluwatar.
This is the first meeting of the cabinet ministers, chaired by PM Oli after the Supreme Court has ruled out the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR).
In a historical verdict on Tuesday, Nepal’s apex court reinstated the dissolved HoR, in a setback to embattled PM Oli, who was preparing for mid-term elections. The Supreme Court also directed the Nepali Government to hold a Parliament meeting by March 8, 2021.
According to a cabinet minister, today’s cabinet meeting is likely to recommend President Bhandari to call for a meeting of the restored HoR.
Earlier on Thursday, PM Oli held a meeting with President Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas. It was the first time both the leaders met after the parliament restoration.
PM Oli is under immense pressure from the Nepal-Dahal faction of the NCP party to step down from the post after the apex court overturned his decision to dissolve parliament.
