Commemorating the Soil Conservation Day 2019, Nepal on August 09, 2019 organized a plantation program at the UNESCO heritage site Pashupathinath.
The event is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Lions Club of Kathmandu, New Waves and the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT).
As part of the program, participants planted around saplings of over 200 plant species.
On the occasion, the Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet spoke on the need to safeguard environment from pollution effects and extended the government’s willingness to support PADT activities.
He called on all the related stakeholders to engage in a similar mission.
The program falls under the government’s decision to make this fiscal year as the ‘Reforestation Year’ and plant 500 million new seedlings across the country.
