The Nepal Government has begun implementation of the ambitious Prime Minister Employment Program (PMEP) in Bhojpur district’s Salpasiichho Rural Municipality.
According to Salpasiichho Rural Municipality Chair Mahesh Rai, individuals unemployed for more than 100 days have been employed into various sectors including agriculture, environment, road, and forests.
10 women and 30 men from ward 2 and ward 3 of the municipality were recruited in the program’s first phase. The rural municipality officials said that the employed persons were assigned cleaning and maintenance of the surrounding.
Rai said that the individuals under the program will be employed for 25 days and will be paid NPR 517 daily.
Earlier, the government had decided to rollout the program from Bhaktapur district. A total of NPR 24.6 million was allocated to the district for program implementation.
PMEP in Bhaktapur has registered 400 applications from Suryabinayak municipality, 910 from Changunarayan and 76 from Madhyapur Thimi.
