The Nepal Government has established the National Child Rights Council (NCRC) replacing the earlier Child Welfare Board.
The child rights council has been setup in accordance with the federal framework adopted by the new constitution. NCRC will be set up in all of Nepal’s 753 local government units.
Minister for Women, Children and Elderly Citizens Tham Maya Thapa inaugurated the council at Srimahal on July 17, 2019. Thapa said confidently that the local levels would work diligently to protect and promote the rights of Nepal’s children while addressing people at the event.
Child Welfare Board Former member Gauri Pradhan suggests that all child organizations in Nepal should be integrated and then moved ahead based on assessment.
National Human Rights Commission member Mohana Ansari who was also present at the occasion said that an effective mechanism needs to be developed to protect vulnerable children against exploitation and trafficking.
