Nepal Extends ‘Lockdown Until April 15’ Amid 2nd Stage of COVID-19

With no other haven at disposal to stave off coronavirus threat, the Nepali Government has extended the current nationwide lockdown by another eight days until April 15, 2020.

Earlier, the ‘COVID-19 High-Level Coordination Committee’ has recommended the government to extend the lockdown as country entered the second phase of the coronavirus outbreak.

Nepal reported the first case of locally transmitted coronavirus infection on April 3, 2020.

 

This is the second time that the Nepali Government has extended the lockdown. The first lockdown was announced on March 24, 2020 and it was extended till April 7, 2020.

Likewise, the Nepali Government is preparing to bring all the private hospitals and medical institutions under control to provide effective healthcare services in case of coronavirus outbreak.

So far, the government has arranged around 31,000 quarantine beds across the country.

Moreover, the government has extended the swab testing services from the National Public Health Laboratory to other ten labs in the country.

The ten new labs for testing COVID-19 samples are located at-

  • Kathmandu
  • Dharan
  • Hetauda
  • Pokhara
  • Butwal
  • Surkhet
  • Dhangadhi
  • Dhulikhel
  • Bharatpur
  • Bhairahawa

So far, Nepal has reported 9 coronavirus infection cases. While the first patient has already recovered, the remaining eight are undergoing treatment.
