As the American and European countries are reeling under the adverse socio-economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the South Asian countries are witnessing a gradual rise in the coronavirus cases.
So far, the coronavirus has infected over 49,717 people and claimed 1,381 lives in the eight countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region.
The countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives.
1) India
India is the worst-hit country among the member states of the SAARC, with its cases crossing 28000 mark on April 27, 2020.
Around 1,600 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the country on Sunday, raising the total tally to 27,900. And, 56 new fatalities brought the death toll to 884.
So far, the Indian Government has conducted coronavirus tests on 625,309 suspects.
2) Pakistan
Pakistan is the second worst-hit country in the SAARC region. In the last 24 hours, the country has reported 605 new coronavirus infection cases and 12 death cases. So far, some 144,365 people have been tested for coronavirus in the country so far.
3) Bangladesh
On April 26, 2020, the Bangladesh Government has reported 418 new coronavirus infection cases and 5 death cases. So far, the government has conducted coronavirus tests on 46,589 people.
4) Afghanistan
Afghanistan has reported 68 new COVID-19 infection cases and 3 death cases in the last 24 hours. Around 8,090 people have been tested for COVID-19 in the country so far.
5) Sri Lanka
In the last 24 hours, Sri Lanka has reported 71 new coronavirus infection cases and zero death cases. So far, the government has tested 13,850 suspects for coronavirus.
6) Maldives
On April 26, 2020, the Maldivian Government has reported 37 new coronavirus positive cases and zero death cases. Till date, the government has conducted coronavirus tests on some 5,296 people.
7) Nepal
Nepal is one of the least affected countries by the coronavirus in the SAARC region. The country has witnessed only 3 new coronavirus cases on Sunday. So far, the government has tested 51,367 people for coronavirus.
8)Bhutan
Bhutan is the least affected country in the SAARC region with only 4 coronavirus active cases. So far, the government has tested 9,791 suspects for coronavirus.

As of today, the global coronavirus infection cases have risen to 3,017,776, and the number of death cases now stands at 207,722.
